Controller

Reporting to the VP Finance, the Controller will develop, lead and manage finance operations and reporting. The Controller will lead all aspects of the company’s finance operations including general accounting, payroll, technical accounting, tax and accounts payable with support from the Senior Accountant.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements in compliance with US GAAP.

  • Oversee accounting operations, including maintaining accounting records & policies and a comprehensive set of controls designed to control risk and improve the accuracy of the financial statements.

  • Lead the coordination and support of the independent auditors in their annual audit.

  • Manage treasury and assist Senior Accountant with cash flow management.

  • Provide technical accounting expertise by making clear recommendations to internal team and external auditors on the application of existing and emerging accounting standards.

  • Manage all components of employee-related processes including payroll processing, benefit administration, stock compensation calculations and accruals.

  • Review (and prepare when needed) journal entries, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, internal control work, as well as clinical and other accruals.

  • Oversee external tax advisors to ensure compliance with preparation of tax provisions and required tax filings.

  • Assist in the annual budgeting and planning process.

  • Collaborate with other finance team members to drive internal process improvement projects and identify opportunities for automation.

  • Support ad-hoc requests by providing financial analysis and insight to the business team.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited university and CPA license.

  • 10+ years of total experience and biotechnology experience.

  • SEC reporting, SOX compliance and experience with ActiveDisclosure.

  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement in a rapidly growth environment.

  • Strong presentation and organizational skills with proven capability to work effectively with different functional disciplines.

  • Understanding of GAAP and key technical accounting concepts for biotechnology companies preferred.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics is preferred.
